MeLaß, Baptist Health South Florida People and Science Gallery, Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science
Miami, Florida

The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science supports the innovation and creativity inherent in Miami’s richly diverse community—inspiring people of all ages and cultures to enjoy science and technology, in order to better understand ourselves and our world. A powerful scientific, educational and career resource, Frost Science aims to enrich the lives of South Floridians and visitors from around the world with its real-life marvels, interactive exhibits, and exciting learning adventures in a new state-of-the-art, energy-efficient facility.

RAA collaborated with Frost Museum staff to develop the 9,000-square-foot Baptist Health South Florida Gallery—MeLaβ—on the main plaza level of the Museum. The overall message of the exhibition is that life is full of choices that affect our health and happiness, and that small changes in eating, moving, relaxing, connecting socially, and learning, can add up to big differences. This highly personalized adventure and social experience highlights the many factors that go into shaping the choices we each make every day, and the impact that those choices have on our health and happiness.

The gallery also functions as the premier rental space for the museum. To support this function, the exhibits were designed and constructed to be removable, stored within themselves and positioned at the edge of the gallery during events.

MeLaβ has proven successful in engaging visitors on a highly personal level. Through interactive and social challenges, programs and shows, the exhibition acts as a catalyst for action and encourages visitors to make smarter choices in the pursuit of a healthier, happier lifestyle.
