Shenzhen Bay Cultural Plaza is one of the largest and most ambitious new cultural projects in China, presenting a bold vision for the future of design and cultural exchange in Shenzhen. Located along the city’s bayfront, the complex was designed by the internationally renowned firm MAD Architects. Its expressive architecture provides the setting for a multifaceted cultural destination that includes more than ten galleries dedicated to both permanent and temporary exhibitions across a wide range of subjects.

RAA, NOMURA, and Silkroad Visual collaborated to win the original design competition for all
 permanent gallery spaces. Following the competition, RAA continued its involvement as a design consultant, working with NOMURA and Silkroad Visual, with Silkroad Visual leading the primary design development. The project has established collaborations with major international institutions, including the Design Museum in London, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, and the National Archives of France.

Invested in and constructed by the Shenzhen Municipal Government, and developed and operated by China Resources Land, the Plaza reflects the guiding philosophy of “Openness, Quality, and Growth.” The complex is organized into four core functional areas: design art exhibitions, a future-oriented design academy, diverse cultural spaces, and a cross-disciplinary social community. Conceived as a global platform for design exchange, public learning, and innovation, Shenzhen Bay Cultural Plaza aims to elevate Chinese design on the world stage while fostering dialogue and collaboration across cultures.
