Manga beats Rembrandt and Captain Cook to be named the British Museum’s most popular show last year
The largest exhibition on the comic genre outside of Japan, Manga has been crowned the most popular exhibition to be featured at the British Museum in 2019. According to visitorship statistics produced by The Art Newspaper's Most Popular, Manga saw 1,920 people daily, as compared to Rembrandt: Thinking of Paper, which saw around 100 less; Reimagining Captain Book Pacific Perspectives, 1,666 daily; and I am Ashurbanipal: king of the world, king of Assyria, which saw 1,325 a day. In 2019, the British Museum saw a 7% increase in visitorship, greeting 6.2 million people.
